More talk about the GVR clubs.
• Card Games – there are at least five different bridge clubs, including Progressive Bridge, and Duplicate Bridge. Did your parents play Canasta? Well we even have a Canasta Club. Green Valley poker club, Green Valley Hearts Club, Wright-Patterson Mah Jongg Club and the National Mah Jongg Club, Green Valley Cribbage Club, A Euchre Club, Pinochle Club and of course we have the Green Valley Chess Club. There is more, but that is enough to give you the idea!
• Depending on what part of the USA you are from or for that matter if you are from Canada, there is probably a club for you. For instance, we have the Minnesota Club, Michigan Club, Eastern States Club, Alaska Club, Oregon Club and the Colorado Club just to name a few.
• Green Valley Recreation has three Lapidary and Silversmithing Clubs. They are located in Desert Hills Center, East Center and West Center. Some of the activities are stone shaping and polishing, chain making, silver smithing, casting and more. The club always has expert craftsmen with experience in all areas on hand and offering classes. The cost per year is $30.00

Let’s talk about a few of the GVR clubs. • The computer club, located in The Springs recreation center, is second to none as far as education, use of computers and classes. Simply put, the classes offered range from “how to turn on your computer to classes that are very advanced. At the computer club you can do everything from checking email to touching up photos. You can even transfer your old photos and movies unto CD’s or DVD’s. Check out there web page at http://gvcc.apcug.org/.
• The Woodworkers Club of Green Valley, located in the West Center recreation center, in currently undergoing a new facelift and expansion. This project will just about double the space from about 3,000 sq ft to 6,000 sq ft. It will add many new peaces of equipment. Weather you want to make a wooden bowl or kitchen cabinets, the woodworkers club has the right equipment and can help you with the project. Check out http://www.gvwoodworkers.org/ for all the information.
• The Clay Studio of Green Valley offers classes for everyone from novice to expert. If you think you are not an artist, this might be the club to prove you wrong. Check out http://www.claystudiogvaz.com/ for all the fun.
• Because there are so many clubs, we will only talk about a few clubs at a time. Expect more next time.

• Green Valley Recreation, better known as GVR is a non-profit organization serving the leisure and social needs of our active baby boomer community.
• GVR owns and operates twelve Recreation Centers (soon to be thirteen), with a total property value of more than $18 million. GVR provides many services and activities to a private membership base of nearly 13,000 households (an estimated 26,500 individuals).
• GVR is made up of volunteers and a handful of employees. Hundreds of volunteers assist a dedicated staff to help operate year-round programs for both active and passive “boomer lifestyles”.
• Most of our communities have an exemption to the fair housing law as to age and familial status. Anyone, any age, can own a home in Green Valley, however, in the majority of our communities at least one resident must be 55 or over and no permanent resident can be under the age of 18. Your family is always welcome to visit and use our facilities.
• The cost for all this is rather minimal when you look at the big picture. There is a New Member Capital Fee of $2,132.00 paid at the close of escrow of your home; you will only pay that fee once. After that there is an annual fee of $394.00 and is tied to Social Security. It cannot increase more than the increase of Social Security benefits. Some of the clubs charge a small yearly fee, for instance, the wood shop has a yearly fee of $35.00 as does the computer club and camera club.
